Michael Skinner
Lighting Design
Michael Skinner (Lighting Design)
is an Associate Professor of Theatre and the Lighting Designer
at Texas Christian University. He received his B.A. in
technical theatre from West Texas State University
and his M.F.A. in Lighting Design and Production from the
University of Oklahoma. He has designed the lighting for
over eighty productions of theatre, opera, and dance in
various venues. Michael has had the pleasure of designing
in Italy, Germany, and Russia, including the Russian premiere
of the American musical The Fantasticks at Theatre
Koleso in Togliatti, Russia. Michael has designed for Contemporary
Ballet Dallas, with designs including An Evening with
Hans Christian Andersen, Champagne Kisses and Cadaver
Dreams, and Terpshichores World as well as
Ector Theatricals’ Beauty and the Beast and Anything
Goes. Some of Michael’s most recent work include Tribute
to Life, a multimedia tribute to Bock and Harnick performed
at the William Inge Theatre Festival, Amphibian Productions’ Miss
Witherspoon and This is How it Goes, as well
as scenery for A Lesson Before Dying, and scenery
and lighting for Permanent Collection at Jubilee
Theater. Michael’s work outside the theatre also includes
corporate event design and production with companies such
as Ignition! Creative Group and ZOOM.7, Inc., working on
such projects as the Kawasaki Motors New Product Showcase
and Mary Kay Inc, Seminar as well as projects for Sprint,
The Pampered Chef, and The Hong Kong Trade Development
Council. Michael is a member of The United States Institute
for Theatre Technology and serves as sponsor for the TCU
student chapter. Michael was honored in 2005 by the Texas
Educational Theatre Association as the Featured Designer
for Design Southwest, an exhibit of theatrical design in
Texas. In 2005 Michael was inducted into the Branding Iron
Theater Hall of Fame by his alma mater WTAMU.
